PM may visit Kanishka victims’ memorial in Toronto

NEW DELHI - The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has reportedly expressed a desire to visit the memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1985 Air India plane explosion in Toronto.
Sources said that Dr. Singh was acutely aware of the 25th anniversary of that disaster being observed recently, and is keen, time permitting, to meet with relatives of those victims who died in that tragedy.
They also said that he would be interacting with the non-resident Indian community in Toronto during his visit on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit.
They said that he is aware of the Indian community’s contribution to India’s economic growth, and would give them more opportunities to contribute to growth.
The sources said that of Canada’s nearly 35 million strong population, 1.1 million were Indians, and nearly 700,000 of Punjabi origin. So in that sense, this would be an important interaction from the Prime Minister’s point of view. By Ashok Dixit (ANI)
