MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- CBI has been reprimanded by the Bombay High Court following their delay in a case of custodial death. Reportedly, the custodial death took place at the Ghatkopar police station way back in the year of 2009. Following the orders of Supreme Court, the Bombay High Court had asked the CBI (Central Bureau Of Investigation) to carry out an extensive investigation of the case and hand over the reports to the court as fast as possible. However, the CBI has not been able to deliver any reports on the case and hence the Bombay High Court has pulled up CBI once again for the progress report.

Justice B H Marlapalle told the media that the progress on the case has been unimpressive and Bombay High Court has been forced to pull CBI on lax probe after a period six months of observation. When asked about their delay on the case of custodial death, a CBI lawyer told the media that the FIR was registered by the cops on November 27, 2009. Since then a total of 40 people has been interrogated and their statements have been recorded by the police. It was also said an expert is trying to analyze the injury marks. However, up till now the Bombay High Court has not received any case study or progress reports from CBI.

A judicial bench of Bombay High Court that comprised of Justice Marlapalle along with Justice Anoop Mohta presided over the case of custodial death of 22 year old Altaf Sheikh. As a matter of fact, Altaf Sheikh’s mother Mehrunissa Sheikh claimed that the police had killed her son in the custody. Her lawyer Yug Chaudhary has approached the Bombay High Court for a compensation.
