More Faisal Shahzad’s living amongst US civilians, warns NY Police Chief

NEW YORK - New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has warned of an enhanced threat from ‘home grown terrorists’ such as the failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, adding that there are many like him currently living amongst the US citizens at present.
Speaking during a function here, Kelly said that the botched May 1 terror plot confirmed that “the threat from extremists shows no sign of receding.”
“Shahzad’s plea was a ‘chilling reminder’ of the threat posed by home-grown terrorists who make no apologies for trying to kill as many New Yorkers as possible to avenge what they perceive as American responsibility for Muslim deaths abroad,” The Daily Times quoted Kelly, as saying.
Earlier this week, Shahzad, a US citizen of Pakistani origin, had pleaded guilty to 10 charges, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and attempted terrorism transcending national borders, and warned that extremists would continue to target America unless it pulls out troops from Muslim nations and stop drone attacks in Pakistan’s tribal regions.
“Shahzad could not have put it more plainly when he said, ‘It’s a war. If the NYPD’s intelligence programme has taught us anything, it is that there are others living among us who share his beliefs and aspirations,” Kelly added. (ANI)
