Melbourne, June 23 (ANI): The nurse in the famous World War II ‘Times Square Kiss’ picture has died at the age of 91.

Edith Swain was captured when she was locked in a spontaneous kiss with a US sailor in Times Square New York on Victory over Japan Day, August 14, 1945.

Swain died in Los Angeles and is survived by three sons.

The iconic photo was taken by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt and published in Life magazine in 1945 with the caption ‘In New York’s Times Square a white-clad girl clutches her purse and skirt as an uninhibited sailor plants his lips squarely on hers,’ reports The Daily Telegraph.

“My mom was always willing take on new challenges and caring for the World War II veterans energized her to take another chance to make a difference,” Swain’s son Justin Decker said. (ANI)
