NEW YORK - Dr. Connie Mariano-the White House doctor when former US President Bill Clinton’s sex scandal with Monica Lewinsky hit headlines-has spilled some beans about the high profile affair in a new book.

In the new book, titled ‘The White House Doctor’, Mariano details her reluctant involvement in determining that the 42nd President did have “sexual relations with that woman” after all.

“I was stunned by the indignity of it. Not only did Ken Starr order Clinton to turn over his DNA in the form of a blood sample, but he picked me, the President’s personal physician, to draw the blood,” the New York Daily News quoted Mariano as saying.

“I was also a military officer who had sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Starr took advantage of my duty as a Naval officer … to perform this odious task,” she added.

However, in the book, the doctor insists that she knew nothing of the President’s infidelities, despite having “travelled with him around the globe.”

She wrote that, as the Lewinsky scandal played out, she made a decision to remain loyal to her patient.

“I realized in order to survive disaster, I had to be tough. I had to stay and serve the President of the United States, in ’sickness and in health,’” wrote Mariano.

And Clinton has contributed the foreword to Mariano’s book, which Thomas Dunn Books publishes Tuesday. (ANI)
