MALACCA - The Malaysian police have arrested a gang of thieves that robbed gold and jewellery from idols of eight Hindu temples across the town.
The police have arrested a female and eight male members of the ‘Tony Gang’ including its Chief Tony following several raids in Malacca and Johor between June 6 and 16.
“The gang was effectively crippled following the arrest of its leader, a 35-year-old man known as Tony from Batu Berendam,” The Star quoted Malacca police chief SAC I Datuk Rodwan Mohd Yusof as saying.
The gang has been active since October last year and is believed to be responsible for spate of robberies and some 20 snatch thefts including the looting of eight Hindu temples in the region.
“Police seized a Star S.A automatic pistol with 10 rounds, a samurai sword, five handphones, drug paraphernalia, a Hyundai Atoz, and a Rolex watch,” he added. (ANI)
