Delhi govt clears hike in auto fares

NEW DELHI - The Delhi Government on Monday announced a hike in auto fares following the CNG price increase.

The revised fares will be announced in a day or two.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said: “The revised prices will be announced in a day or two. There will no increase in bus fares.”

According to sources, the fare charge for taxis and autos for the first kilometre is proposed to be increased by Rs. five and for the rest it may be hiked by about 30-35 percent.

At present, auto-rikshaw charge Rs.10 for the first kilometre and thereafter Rs.4.50 for each subsequent kilometre, while taxis charge Rs 15 for the first kilometre and Rs.8.50 for each subsequent kilometres

Meanwhile, private bus associations have also demanded a revision of the current fare.

CNG price was hiked from Rs.21.90 to Rs.27.60.(ANI)
