35 person taken ill after gas leakage in Orissa’s Berhampur

Berhampur (Orissa): At least 35 persons, including school children, women and employees of the drinking water supply department, were taken ill on Monday after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder of urban water supply department here.

According to Sub-Collector of Berhampur, Ajit Mishra, the affected person were admitted to MKCG Medical College Hospital.

“Their condition has been improving,” Mishra said.

The cylinder, reportedly procured from neighbouring Paralakhemundi division to purify water. It leaked when someone allegedly tried to remove the brass nozzle, an official of urban water supply (Berhampur) stated.

Local residents complained of respiratory problem. (ANI)
