SRINAGAR - Pakistani troops resorted to firing at an Indian border outpost in Jammu region’s Ranbir Singh Pura sector along the international border early Monday, police said.

“Pakistani troops fired at Abdullah border outpost this morning. The fire was returned by the BSF (Border Security Force) troops,” a police officer told IANS.

“No casualty has been reported in the incident,” the officer said.

A BSF trooper told IANS that the exchange of fire lasted for about an hour.

The fire from across the border started around 4 a.m. and was directed at Abdullah post in Ranbir Singh Pura, about 30 km west of Jammu.

This is the second ceasefire violation in Jammu and Kashmir in two days.

On Sunday, two civilian porters working for the army were killed and two troopers injured when Pakistan violated the bilateral ceasefire in Machil sector of the Line of Control (LoC).

The violation comes ahead of Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao’s visit to Pakistan Thursday when she meets her counterpart Basit Bashir.
