Omar Abdullah orders removal of Srinagar SSP after firing incident

SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday ordered to remove Srinagar Senior Superintendent of Police Riyaz Bedar, following a firing incident which killed a person.

Bedar will be replaced by Syed Ashiq Bukhari, who is currently the Senior Superintendent of Police, Counter Intelligence wing.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Abdullah.

The meeting was also attended by Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda, Special Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) N. K. Tripathy and other officers.

The meeting reviewed the prevailing situation in the state after the firing incident.

Abdullah also asked police and security forces to exercise utmost restraint in dealing with tensions and mobs.

Earlier in the day, one person was killed and five were injured in clashes with security forces during a funeral procession. (ANI)
