MUMBAI - Domestic helpers in Mumbai staged a demonstration demanding implementation of proposals of the International Labour Conference (ILC) here on Saturday.
They demanded that they should get four leaves a month, that they should also be given old-age pension, and that the government should provide them with accommodation, as well.
“The wages that we demand are not given to us. We get meager wages for our work, and if we take a day off, our wages are cut. They don’t even give money for our medicines. So our demand is that we should get our medical expenses from the government and we should get bonus on festivals,” said Deepali Kiran Bhoir, a member of Maharashtra Kamgar Sangathana.
” Government should do social justice with these maids and the domestic workers should get old-age protection in which pension, insurance and accommodation should be given,” said Gyanesh Patil, another member of Mumbai Kamgar Sangathana. (ANI)
