GoM on Bhopal tragedy to meet again today

NEW DELHI - The Group of Ministers (GoM) looking into the matters related to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy is scheduled to meet here on Saturday.
The GoM in its first meeting on Friday deliberated on presentations made by the ministries of Steel, Fertilizers and Chemicals.
The GoM is expected to submit its recommendations to Prime Minister Dr Manhmohan Singh on Monday.
The group is looking after the issued related to relief, rehabilitation and remediation issues and considering legal options in the wake of the recent trial court judgment in the case.
At the meeting on Friday, the GoM identified the areas, which require in-depth consideration.
During Friday’s deliberations, it was felt that in government’s eyes, Warren Anderson was still a proclaimed offender and the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 (Part II) was still there.
The meeting is also likely to consider the liability of Dow Chemicals for the cleaning up of the site in Bhopal.
The issue of the possibility of Anderson extradition will also be taken up during Saturday’s meeting. (ANI)
