Zardari’s popularity sinks to all-time low, Sharif on new high: Survey

WASHINGTON - A new survey has found that Pakistan President Asif Zardari’s popularity has sunk to an all-time low, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s popularity has reached a new high.

According to the survey conducted by the Pew Research Centre, Zardari’s popularity is at 32 percent, while Sharif has a 79 percent approval rating.

The Pakistani media’s role has also been seen in a positive light, with almost 77 percent saying that the media is having good influence on the country.

It also found that the long-standing concern about extremism has grown even greater over the past year, and indifference and mixed opinions about terror groups, including Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, have given way to a strong condemnation of both groups, The News reports.

While views about national conditions are overwhelmingly negative, most Pakistanis are upbeat about their personal lives, as 74 percent said that they are very or somewhat satisfied with their overall lives. (ANI)
