LUDHIANA - The family members of Indian accountancy graduate Nitin Garg, who was stabbed to death in Melbourne earlier this year, want the teenaged Australian accused punished by law.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in a children’s court in Australia’s Melbourne city for Garg’s murder.

“Australian Broadcasting had informed us that an accused has been arrested in the murder case of our nephew in Australia. They have sent us a fax that the murderer is a 15-year-old boy whose motive was neither robbery nor racial abuse,” said Garg’s uncle Rajkumar.

“Earlier, the lawmakers had gone to Australia and pursued the police and the authorities, and with the help of the police there they were able to arrest him. Further investigation is on to find the motive behind the murder,” he added.

Rajkumar further said the family will be satisfied only after the murderer is given the right punishment.

Garg was walking through Cruickshank Park, in Melbourne’s west, to his place of work at a Yarraville Hungry Jack’s outlet around 9.30 p.m. on January 2, when he was stabbed.e staggered to the fast food outlet, at the corner of Somerville and Geelong roads, and died a short time later.

Twenty-one-year-old Garg was not robbed and his belongings were left scattered in the park where he was murdered.

His murder triggered angry protests in India over the safety of students in Australia. (ANI)
