ETAWA - The Uttar Pradesh Police resorted to baton charge to quell an agitated mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawa on Tuesday.
The local residents were protesting against the construction of a flyover connecting a major highway without any foot over bridge for the pedestrians.
Local leaders rued that the authorities closed a rail crossing without making any provisions for the pedestrians to cross over and also accused the police of high handedness.
“We asked for a very small thing. The flyover is constructed in a wrong manner and there is no footpath or passage which the worker class, cyclists or a poor man can use,” said former MLA Ashok Dubey.
“We just wanted that a footpath should have been constructed there first, but they used their power in a wrong manner and closed the railway gate forcibly,” he added.
However, the authorities concerned denied any wrongdoing.
“When the flyover was constructed, it was decided that the railway gate would be closed. Now, it is in a working condition, so the gate is closed, said Ramshankar Gupta, Sub Divisional Magistrate. (ANI)
