NEW DELHI - North Korea has slammed International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano comment on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

A statement carried by the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said Yukiya Amano’s demand last week from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to fulfill its obligation under the nuclear Non-Proliferation of Treaty (NPT) was “ignorant”.

It said the DPRK is not a member of the IAEA and has quit the NPT, adding the DPRK has no obligations to obey the NPT, Xinhua reports.

The statement said the DPRK had done its best to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and the tense situation on the peninsula is caused by the US anti-DPRK policy.

The statement urged Amano to know the concept and history of the nuclear issue and the process of the six-party talks involving the DPRK, South Korea, China, Russia, Japan and the United States, which is aimed at resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. (ANI)
