Alert driver evade a major train mishap in Tamil Nadu

VILLUPURAM - The passengers of Chennai bound Tiruchirapalli-Chennai Rockfort Express had a narrow escape from a tragedy as the driver stopped the train after noticing major breaches in rail track in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram District on Saturday.

Railway Authorities suspect that some terror groups might have engineered a blast targeting the Rockfort Express.

The incident occurred between Mundiyabakkam and Perani stations in Villupuram District. ue to the incident train traffic between Chennai and Tiruchi were paralyzed since morning.

According to Southern Railway officials, the driver and guard of the Salem - Chennai Egmore Express, which preceded the Rockfort Express felt major jolt after crossing Munndiyambakkam station.

The crew immediately stopped the train at Perani station, which is not a scheduled stop, and informed the station officials, who in turn alerted the Munndiyambakkam station master.

Mundiyambakkam station master alerted the crew of the Chennai bound Rockfort Express and asked them to proceed on caution.

The Rockfort Express driver while proceeding cautiously noticed the cut in the track and brought the train to a halt.

Immediately he informed the Mundiyambakkam and Perani station authorities, who in turn alerted control office at headquarters Chennai.

The Southern Railway has suspended all train services on the route.

All trains coming to Chennai from the South, including the Pandiyan Express, Mangalore-Chennai Express, the Nellai Express were stopped at different stations. (ANI)
