Malay Indian Congress to monitor Indian community incentives

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has said that it will follow up on new initiatives proposed for the Indian community in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) to ensure they benefit the target groups.
The initiatives included an 87 percent increase in setting up of pre-schools and absorbing electricity and water bills up to RM 2,000 of partially aided schools - including Tamil schools - and additional allocation for small Indian businessmen through Tekun Nasional.
Among the other initiatives are increasing the incomes and standards of living for the bottom 40 percent households and the construction of 78,000 affordable homes for the poor.
MIC president S. Samy Vellu said: “We will monitor the implementation and ensure the specific targets are met.”
According to The Star, he also welcomed an additional government grant of RM 70 million for the redevelopment of Tamil schools.
He said last year RM 100 million had been set aside under two economic stimulus packages. (ANI)
