Lesbian ex-cop files 40M dlrs sex-harass suit against NYPD, city

NEW YORK - A lesbian cop who left the NYPD, has filed a 40 million dollar suit against the city, over being sexually harassed at the 49th Precinct stationhouse, where she was the only female detective.
Arlene Ramery has said that a Bronx detective squad was more animal house than stationhouse.
The 50-year-old former cop has laid out a laundry list of indignities, which she allegedly suffered at the stationhouse.
The suit, filed in Bronx Supreme court, describes an atmosphere “permeated with ’sexism’ and other ‘frat boy’ type behaviour.”
The lunch area was “filled with magazines depicting scantily clad women for the male detectives’ sexual gratification,” said the suit.
And she was often the target of lesbian jokes and insults.
“I was told I was useless, worthless. They didn’t want me there,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying,.
After complaining, the veteran cop said she suffered one final affront - an assignment to the dreaded midnight shift.
She retired in August 2009 after more than 18 years on the job.
“I feel betrayed by the NYPD. I was a hell of a good cop,” she said from her Orange County home.
She revealed that problems started in early 2008 after she was hurt while responding to a robbery.
A fellow detective, Ralph Argiento, called her at home to say, “You will not be given any more cases,” according to court papers.
About two weeks later, he walked toward her and “simulated masturbating,” said her suit.
However, Argiento said: “These allegations are totally false. All of the things she described never happened.”
Argiento countered that Ramery habitually missed work, and when on duty would ogle female prisoners during perp walks.
Also named in the suit is Lt. Ricardo Lopez, the 49th Precinct commanding officer, who allegedly condoned Argiento’s behaviour. (ANI)
