SURAT - Women in Surat broke empty pitchers to protest against the acute shortage of water here on Wednesday.
Raising slogans before breaking the empty clay pots in front of the municipal corporation office, they lamented that there has been acute shortage of water and the situation has worsened, as there was no water to drink.
According to Savita Patel, a housewife, the corporation has failed in providing safe drinking water.
“We were around 300 to 400 women who went to the municipal corporation office to show the empty pitchers lying in our houses. We broke lots of pitchers each costing rupees 50. We get two days water supply in just rupees 50 but we wanted to show them the pitchers. They should at least provide pitcher full water to us, she said.
With the advent of summer, water crisis usually aggravates in several parts of India. (ANI)
