CISF to guard Rajiv Gandhi memorial at Sriperumbudur

NEW DELHI - Union Cabinet on Thursday decided to handover the security arrangements of the Rajiv Gandhi memorial at Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The Central Industrial Security Force is handling the security arrangements at other Samadhis located in Delhi such as Rajghat, Shanti Van, Vijay Ghat, Shakti Sthal, Vir Bhumi, Ekta Sthal, Kisan Ghat, Samta Sthal and Sangharsh Sthal.
The Central Industrial Security Force deployment would involve a non-recurring expenditure of about Rs.7.06 crore towards office and residential accommodation for security personnel, arms and ammunitions, transportation, etc. besides a recurring expenditure of Rs.1.23 crore per annum on the salary and allowances of these personnel.
In 2004, the then Cabinet decided to handover the security responsibilities of all nine Samadhis in Delhi-Rajghat, Shanti Van, Vijay Ghat, Shakti Sthal, Vir Bhumi, Ekta Sthal, Kisan Ghat, Samta Sthal and Sangharsh Sthal to the CISF.
The provision of security arrangements in respect of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbdur has been examined by the Ministry of Urban Development in consultation with the concerned agencies-Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central Industrial Security Force and Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
The Centre felt that the security of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial may also be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force as in the case of Samadhis in Delhi.(ANI)
