MELBOURNE - An Australian woman is said to have left the police stunned after she was allegedly caught driving while eight times over the legal alcohol limit.

The woman, 33, who was pulled over on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on June 9, allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.391.

According to the Brisbane Times, professor Jake Najman, from the University of Queensland’s Alcohol and Drug Research and Education Centre, said he was surprised anyone who was that intoxicated could drive at all.

“Once you get to 0.1 - twice the legal limit - you’re fairly heavily under, once you get to 0.2 everything is badly affected and at 0.25 you are talking severe compromise of function,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“I’ve never heard of anyone with that level of alcohol in their blood. I didn’t know we could go that high,” he added.

The Cooroy woman, who was pulled over at Noosaville, will face the Noosa Magistrates Court on June 29 charged with drink-driving. (ANI)
