Melbourne, June 9 (ANI): A study has revealed that a large number of people are spending more time in their cars and are getting distracted by multitasking.

The research says in a survey conducted on 500 Queensland drivers, more than 40 per cent admitted to eating while driving, while a quarter said they drink coffee or tea at while driving and have one in six eats breakfast when travelling.

A quarter of the drivers also texted or mailed or talked over the phone when on the wheel. More than one-third argued with their fellow passenger, reports Courier Mail.

“It may be tempting to squeeze in a bite to eat and a phone call while we’re in the car, but if we’re at the wheel we should only be concentrating on our driving and the cars around us,” NRMA Insurance corporate affairs manager Sue Hawkins said.

“We realise everyone leads busy lives but that shouldn’t compromise safety. Losing focus can cause a driver to have a collision,” she added.

“If you’re treating your car like your office, your kitchen or your bathroom, you’re probably not paying enough attention to the road,” she further said. (ANI)
