NORTH CAROLINA - Ponzi swindler Bernie Madoff is something of a “rock star” among current and former inmates in the Butner-North Carolina prison, a A new report by New York magazine reveals.
“I communicated with a couple of dozen [inmates] via letter and phone and had extensive conversations with a half dozen and that’s both inmates and recent releases,” New York magazine reporter Steve Fishman told ABC News.
“And their impression almost unanimously was that he landed like a rock star. He was a celebrity, he had groupies, he had people clamoring for his advice, and his autograph,” he added.
And Madoff loves all the attention, K.C. White, a former inmate, told New York magazine.
Bernie walked around prison confident,” ex-con Keith Mack told the magazine. “He acted like he beat the world.”
Not only is Madoff allegedly enjoying tons of attention from fellow prisoners, he’s not even sorry about what he did to end up in prison, according to White. (ANI)
