Police-public meet organized for cordial relations in Maoist infested Jharkhand village

GUMLA - As part of its endeavour to develop cordial relations with the local people in Maoist infested areas, the police are taking several measures in villages of Jharkhand’s Gumla District.
Local police here on Monday organized a police-public meet in which a large number of residents of Ghagra village participated.
Organised by Gumla police station, the police personnel distributed free clothes, medicines, and meal, besides arranging for free medical check-up of local villagers.
The initiative to bring police and people close to each other and develop good relations received appreciation of villagers.
“This police-public meet is a nice initiative for us. People have started gaining trust in police. This police-public meet has bridged the gap between them. People have gained confidence in police and have started trusting them because they are with us and are not against us,” said Chiras Kindo, a villager.
Moreover, a friendly volleyball match was also played between the local youths and the police personnel.
Senior most police officials expressed their happiness over villagers’ response, as the motive behind the meet was to gain the confidence of the villagers belonging to the Maoist infested village.
“We received a suggestion from the Jharkhand administration regarding this meeting camp. It was really nice. We arranged medical camps in this camps where women were given free medicines. We distributed kerosene oil and clothes. We distributed cooked meals to them and also played a friendly match with them,” said Gumla Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Kumar Singh on this occasion.
“This village is in the interiors and is situated at a remote area. Movement of Maoists and criminals takes place in this village quite often. Today, I felt people have enjoyed this meet after playing the match with us,” he added. (ANI)
