Rs.6.53 Cr under Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana for Tripura released

NEW DELHI - The Centre has released over 6.5 crore rupees for implementation of centrally sponsored Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana in Tripura’s four districts.
“The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant-in-aid worth Rs.6,53,10,000/- (Rs. six crore fifty three lakh ten thousand only) as 1st instalment of central share of funds for the implementation of centrally sponsored Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana to be spread over 4 districts of Tripura during the current financial year 2010-11,” a Ministry of Rural Development release stated on Monday.
“The amount of grant will be released to respective District Rural Development Agencies,” it added.
The total amount of 653.10 lakhs being released has been allocated as for Dhalai district (Rs. 76.32 lakhs), North Tripura (112.19 lakhs), South Tripura (177.67 lakhs), West Tripura ( 266.92 lakhs). he objective of the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) is to bring the assisted poor families (Swarozgaries) above the Poverty Line by ensuring appreciable sustained level of income over a period of time.
This objective is to be achieved by inter alia organizing the rural poor into Self Help Groups(SHGs) through the process of social mobilization, their training and capacity building and provision of income generating assets.
The SHG approach helps the poor to build their self-confidence through community action.
Interactions in group meetings and collective decision making enables them in identification and prioritization of their needs and resources. This process would ultimately lead to the strengthening and socio-economic empowerment of the rural poor as well as improve their collective bargaining power. (ANI)
