BHUBANESWAR - Journalists in Orissa’s Ganjam district Thursday boycotted functions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to protest the government’s failure to arrest those who attacked some media persons last week.

Patnaik attended various government functions at various places of the district but no journalist was seen in any of the functions, a senior district police official told IANS.

Media persons were attacked May 31 by some medical students in the premises of the Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College at Berhampur, some 179 km from here in the district, the journalists said.

They said the students attacked them when they were covering protests by the relatives of a patient who died allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors.

“We boycotted the functions of the chief minister because police have not yet arrested the attackers,” a journalist said.

A large number of scribes wore black badges and staged a sit-in demonstration for several hours at Berhampur town.
