Pak Navy inducts two P3C Orion surveillance aircraft into fleet

KARACHI - The Pakistan Navy has inducted two P3C Orion surveillance aircraft, which were acquired from the US, into its fleet.

Speaking during the induction ceremony at the Mehran naval base, Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir said that with the induction of the two advanced surveillance aircraft, the strength of the navy has increased considerably.

“We have to contribute to make the areas that surround our country on land and the sea safe and secure and that we take this as our responsibility as well as moral obligation,” The Daily Times quoted Bashir, as saying.

Bashir added that the friendship between Pakistan and the US has been cemented further with the induction of the aircraft.

Developed by the Lockheed Martin, the P-3 Orion is a four-engine turboprop anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft.

It was first introduced in the US Navy in the 1960s. (ANI)
