Soaring temperatures in Amritsar distress tourists

AMRITSAR - The intensifying heat wave in Punjab is putting life out of gear as temperatures in Amritsar are hovering around 45 degrees Celsius.
Most parts of the State are experiencing blistering temperatures making it difficult for people to carry out daily activities.
In spite of such difficulties, visitors are braving the heat to witness the flag lowering ceremony at the India-Pakistan border at the Wagah border.
Most of the visitors are seen with heads covered either with handkerchiefs or pieces of cloth, to protect themselves from the scorching heat.
“There is intense heat in Amritsar. The temperature is around 45 to 47 degree Celsius, but even then I have come here to see the parade,” said Harleen Kaur, a visitor.
Now the only hope of respite from the heat wave is the arrival of the monsoon, which has hit the southern tip of the country. (ANI)
