MUMBAI - Elderly citizens, in the age group 50 and above, participated in a match-making event here on Sunday.
Mahendra Joshi, Rotary Club President for North West Mumbai, said that earlier they smirked over such a proposal but later realised that the time had come for such a forum.
“When this kind of proposal was brought to Rotary Club, people smiled and asked whether there would be brides and grooms above 50 years of age. But when we seriously thought over the issue, we realised that the society sincerely needs such an initiative” Joshi added.
Almost all of the senior citizens who turned up were either divorced or had lost their life partners.
“We need someone to talk with, when we come from outside there should be someone with whom we can have talks with, somebody with whom we can go outside, it gives pleasure,” said Sakuntala Panchal, a 74 year old candidate for marriage.
The event is first of its kind of match-making for senior citizens organized in Mumbai. (ANI)
