NEVADA - Hindus want segregation of Roma children in schools of Europe to end immediately.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was sad that segregation of Roma children in many European countries was still reportedly continuing.
Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg also recently commented: “School segregation and substandard education is a reality for Roma children in many countries in Europe.
The consequences of this are devastating, and leave virtually no opportunities for these children to escape poverty and marginalisation later on in life.”
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that Europe should respect decisions of Strasbourg Court and urgently end reportedly discriminatory treatment of Roma children in its schools.
Roma children should be offered same quality education as other children and more ethnically mixed classes should be encouraged. (ANI)
