MELBOURNE - A 29-year-old Indian national has been jailed for at least two years and three months for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Melbourne, Australia.
According to reports, Mujahed Ur-Rahman had approached a Noble Park resident on September 30 last year, asking her to buy a pay television service.
After she declined, Mujahed went outside to the front yard of the house and picked up the woman’s nine-year-old daughter and kissed her on the cheek before sexually penetrating the girl.
Victorian County Court Judge Paul Lacava sentenced Mujahed to three years and nine months’ jail, with a non-parole period of two years and three months, after Mujahed pleaded guilty to one count of sexually penetrating a child aged under 16.
The 29-year-old, who arrived in Australia in October 2008 to study for a diploma in hospitality management, also pleaded guilty to an additional two charges relating to separate incidences on another victim, committing an indecent act on a child aged under 16 and knowingly possessing child pornography.
“Your offending involved touching a young girl, that is totally unacceptable.
Young children ought to feel safe in the confines of their own homes in broad daylight,” The Age quoted Judge Lacava, as having told the court.
Mujahed has already spent 243 days in jail, and Judge Lacava said that the court would count the period as already served. (ANI)
