KOLKATA - At least two people died and over six others sustained minor injuries, when a vintage warehouse on the Strand Road in Kolkata collapsed on Saturday evening.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation had declared the building as unsafe, after it was wrecked in a fire in February early this year.

“All the people have been evacuated but the free standing walls, which are standing over there, and now the free standing walls have collapsed,” said Debashish Kar, Director General (Buildings) Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

Debashish also mentioned that the building was the responsibility of Kolkata Port Trust but nothing was done about the leftover walls, which collapsed causing the tragedy.

“There are two casualties and five to six people are injured. But, the condition of them are not known to us right at this moment,” he added.

Kolkata Port Trust owns the building. (ANI)
