Soaring temperatures hit hay crop in Amritsar

AMRITSAR - The entire hay crop grown in the Amritsar region has dried up due to the severe heat wave sweeping.
Farmers engaged in the cultivation of fodder for their livestock are experiencing low yield.
“We are facing lot of problem; the temperature here is around 47 degree Celsius.
Temperature like 47 degrees usually happens to be in the month of mid June but the increasing of such scorching temperature a month earlier made life of farmers miserable, ” Said Sukhdeep Sidhu, former head of village.
In Haryana, people are also facing many problem caused by the heat wave.
“The temperature here is very high. We cover our faces whenever we come out and, to protect ourselves from the heat wave,” Said Jatin Kumar, a local.
Usually, until the onset of the monsoon, May and June are the hottest months in India with the temperatures often in the range of 42 to 47 degrees Celsius in many places.
This year the people were startled as the mercury shot beyond 40 degrees in April itself. (ANI)
