IMPHAL - With the temporary lifting of the economic blockade on Manipur, people are making a rush to collect essential commodities to carry on their daily life.

A beeline of vehicles can be noticed at petrol pumps.

Stocks of petroleum products were brought into the State after oil tankers in Jiribam city were escorted back to Imphal.

Following the entry of 290 trucks into the city, the State government issued orders for the distribution of cooking fuels amongst the general public, institutions and farmers.

However, due to fuel-shortage its supply is being rationed. The economic blockade which began on April 12 has caused a lot of inconvenience to general public.

“As a student, I am very much frustrated about it. I have come home for a holiday and I wanted to go for a long drive with my friends but I can’t afford it due to scarcity of petrol,” said Rupa, a local resident.According to Government’s order, we will get 10 litres for four wheelers and five litres for two wheelers,” said Zemang, another local resident.

The economic blockade was imposed by the All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur (ANSAM) against the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Elections. (ANI)
