AIZWAL, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Experts from IIT Kharagpur took part in a seminar organized by the Aizwal Development Authority held at the Agriculture Conference Hall on the 21st of this month where the authorities chalked out a master plan for the city, a plan which shows the city in the year 2030.
The powerpoint presentation of this plan as shown by the the authorities of IIT Kharagpur shows Aizwal as divided into ten planning zones twenty years from now. The experts have estimated that each of these zones will cover a total area of 15.1 sq km and will show a population count of 0.7 lac, with minor variations in this figure by 2030. The IIT Kharagpur representatives have further estimated that out of the 15,280 hectares of area that the new plan is supposed to cover, around 6108 hectares will be put aside for only urban purposes which will take into account both commercial and industrial constructions.
With around 40% of the total area being occupied by urban areas, the IIT Kharagpur masters have kept aside the remaining 60% of the land which accounts for 9172 hectares for agriculture and various water bodies. The non-urban land will also take into account the sloppy grounds in Aizwal, grounds which cannot be used for anything.
Not only construction and agriculture but also tourism is taken into account by the panel which has formulated the master plan. According to the IIT Kharagpur experts the higher slopes of the city have to be used for building eco-parks which can be used for recreation purposes. It is being said that after the Assam Rifles leave the city, the huge space will be left open and construction will not be allowed in the open area. The suggested plan is set to introduce Aizwal as the best capital city in the northeast.
