New York (GaeaTimes.com) Fleet Week is the time when extensive military demonstrations are held and general public are allowed to tour some of the visiting ships. The Fleet Week is being held since 1984 to honor the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. This year Fleet Week 2010 New York City will be held from May 26 to June 2. During this time, big ships and lots of sailors in uniform will visit Manhattan, at the heart of America The New York City. Briefly said, there will be ship tours, military demos and a special Memorial Day ceremony. There will be a free screening of Top Gun on the flight deck of intrepid. The events are generally free but the events which are held at the USS Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. You need to buy tickets to enter the museum. Admission to the Intrepid is free for any military personnel, active or retired.
Parade of Ships will be held at 8:30 a.m. on May 26 at the Hudson River on Manhattan’s west side. Free Ship Tours will be available at the Pier 88, 48th St/West Side Highway on May 27 from 8 am to 5 pm. Broadway Showcase will be held on May 28. The Top Gun screening is scheduled on may 28 and a Tug of War between the military branches will be held on May 29th. On May 31st the Memorial day Ceremony will be held. The ships and service members will depart the city on June 2, 2010.
