JAMMU - A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was injured in firing from across the international border in the Hira Nagar sector in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday morning, an officer said.

The BSF, which guards the 198-km international border in Jammu’s plains, also retaliated.

“It was around 5.45 a.m. when firing started from across the Hira Nagar sector (about 70 km southwest of Jammu). One head constable was injured in the firing,” a senior BSF officer told IANS.

“We also retaliated and the firing lasted for a few minutes,” the officer said.

He, however, did not venture to guess whether the Pakistani Rangers, who guard the border on their side, were involved in the firing.

“It is being determined as to whose action it could be. By the initial reports and the nature of the incident, it appears that militants were involved,” the officer said.
