Huge infrastructure sector investments in North-East: Anand Sharma

GUWAHATI - Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma on Saturday said huge investments have been made in the region through massive allocations by Department of North-Eastern Region for building physical infrastructure.

Addressing the North-East Trade and Industry Ministers Conclave here today, Sharma said: “An ambitious programme of construction of roads has been taken up under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for the North East and substantial amount is being invested during the 11th Plan Period.”

“Border Area Development Program and substantial Plan allocations have ensured connectivity to each village and habitation of this region,” he added.

Detailing further government investments in the North Eastern India, Sharma informed that the Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Project is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 6000 crores and Loktat Downstream project at a cost of Rs. 8000 crores, Palatana Gas based Power Plant with an investment of over Rs. 3000 crores and a Thermal Power Plan at Bongaigaon, with an investment of Rs. 4375 crores.

Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Pradyut Bordoloi, Trade Ministers from North Eastern states, senior officials from the Union Government and state governments were also present at the occassion. (ANI)
