SRINAGAR - Taking a controversial stand, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday questioned the unwanted fuss being created over carrying out capital punishment to the 2001 Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru.
Why there is so much hype on Afzal Guru? There are 28 others on death row before him. Decide Guru’s fate only after the fate of other 28 is decided, Times Now quoted the J-K chief minister as saying.
Mohammad Afzal, also known as Afzal Guru, was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament.
In 2004, the Supreme Court of India sentenced him to death. The sentence was scheduled to be carried out on October 20, 2006.
Afzal was given a stay of execution and remains on death row. (ANI)
