TEHRAN - External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna arrived here in the capital city of Iran on a four-day official visit.
M.R. Ghanizadeh, the Director General (west Asia) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran, received Krishna here.
Krishna is scheduled to attend the G-15 meet of developing countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America, as being hosted by Iran, with an aim to renew the grouping.
The two-day G-15 meet that begins on Monday (May 17) will have economic cooperation high on the agenda.
Besides, Krishna is scheduled to hold a bilateral-meet with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki.
The meet holds significance, as issues like the controversial nuclear energy programme and the proposed Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project are also likely to figure prominently in the bilateral talks.
It may be noted that, last year, India’s vote for an international resolution against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) had left Iran fuming.
Krishna’s visit is likely to be used to clarify the Government of India’s stance on the issue. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
