BRITISH COLUMBIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The marine biologists are at a loss to understand why 8 harbour porpoises have died and their corpses have gathered at the shore adjacent to Victoria. The latest corpse was found Tuesday. While harbor porpoise have earlier been seen ashore so many of them did not die in quick succession and this has made the biologists worried about any impending danger threatening their existence. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans are also anxious to know the truth. It is too early to say if the death was natural or they received injury owing to fishing or other human interference that led to their death.

The corpse of the porpoises show no sign of external trauma as was confirmed by the DFO’s manager Larry Paike. The dead bodies that have been found ashore proves that the animals were healthy and apparently the animals were not suffering from any disease. The commonest reason of the death of porpoises is hunting by kilter whales. Killer whales love to hunt and devour these marine animals. Unfortunately the porpoises sometime side out of the trauma of being hunted by the killer whales. The last porpoise that was found at the shore was pregnant. The marine biologists feel that weak animals in this species sometimes cannot cope up with the pressure of carrying a child.

The dead bodies of the porpoises have been sent to a forensic lab for extensive tests in Vancouver. There is a possibility that the animals could have succumbed to death owing to poisoning. The laboratory tests will reveal the truth.
