World Environment Day

PITTSBURG (GaeaTimes.com)- Pittsburg has been selected by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) to be the North American city that shall be hosting the World Environment Day 2010 on June 5. Reportedly, the United Nations Environment Programme has declared the theme of World Environment Day to be, “Many Species: One Planet, One Future”. As a matter of fact the theme mingles well with the main theme of biodiversity (2010 is the year of Biodiversity) that dotes upon the attainment of green economy and an effective ecosystem management.

World Environment Day came into being in the year of 1972 by United Nations General Assembly. Following that each and every year, World Environment Day is being observed by United Nations Environment Programme. Each year a different city plays the host city for the year and embarks on a new theme which gains mass appeal with its international exposition. This year Pittsburg is all set to dip in the fervor of World Environment Day 2010 which aims to make earth as planet a common home for man and animals alike.

The UNEP officials told the media that the World Environment Day project 2010 shall witness a bunch of interesting activities which is all destined to leave it’s mark upon one and all. The official further said that like every year World Environment Day 2010 shall also serve to spread the spirit of preserving the environment and its greenery as an asset. It shall also witness special seminars and discussions being held which shall focus upon the very idea how people in general can come and strive together to better the standards of our environment which shall help our planet to escape the clutches of alarming issues like global warming.
