Thousands of quintals of wheat in Kurukshetra region rotting in open

KURUKSHETRA - Thousands of quintals of wheat in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district is rotting in the open, due to shortage of warehouses as it is exposed to rains in the region.
Most of the surplus wheat generated in the region is kept outside, without any protection from harsh weather conditions.
However, the officials appeared in a denial mode and said that rainfalls would not affect the procured wheat stored in the open.
“The wheat that was brought this year by the Confed, out of that 10,000 metric tones is kept in the wholesale market and 10,000 metric tones is kept in Kota Complex in sector 2. This wheat is kept in open; we have to cover it up with the water proof sheets. There are less chances of rotting. Though, due to rainfall, the wheat has gained moisture, but after the sun comes out the moisture will vanish,” said Vinod Kumar, District Officer, Confed.
He said they have sent a letter to the concerned authorities, to provide them with warehouses and waterproof sheets. (ANI)
