WELLINGTON - Darth Vader, the fictional character from Star Wars, is the latest addition to TomTom’s GPS car navigation devices.
TomTom launched the Darth Vader turn-by-turn voice skin for all of its GPS devices yesterday to coincide with International Star Wars day.
Drivers will not be spared his dark vision. “Turn around when possible. I find your lack of faith disturbing,” he chides. “Take the third left, sense your way,” and “Go around the roundabout. The circle is now complete”.
From June, Darth Vader will be joined by C-3PO, Yoda (in July) and Han Solo (in August).
TomTom has also launched other downloadable content such as start-up screens, car icons, sound effects, and standard computer-generated voices in 56 languages for free or to record their own voice skins and share them with other users.
“It was a really good opportunity to give people that variety of interesting voices on their GPS. We’ve got a whole host of celebrity voices now - such as Homer Simpson and Billy Connolly,” stuff.co.nz quoted Chris Kearney, marketing director at TomTom, as saying.
Other Tom Tom voices include John Cleese, Mr T, Sex and Kim Cattrall, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper and baseball player Curt Schilling.
Although there are plenty of unofficial voice skins for GPS devices in the market, TomTom hasn’t been able to obtain official licenses from celebrities. (ANI)
