BANKURA - A huge storm and rains paralyzed normal life in West Bengal’s Bankura District on Monday.

At least two people were killed in the Taldangra village of the district, while over 50 were injured. Over hundreds houses were also destroyed.

Some of the villagers have lost their livelihood and are looking for government assistance.

“I had a chicken farm, which I maintain myself and I bought 2,000 chickens for rupees 72,000 and its feed and feeder, but everything has been destroyed by this storm and rain,” said Ashok Mondal, a villager.

“Now, we want some help from the Panchayat (Village Council), Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad (District Council) for poor villagers who were effected and relief for those who have lost everything,” said Subhasis Ganguly, another villager.

The region is prone to thunderstorms due to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal. (ANI)
