CHENNAI - In a bid to woo tourists, the tourism department of Tamil Nadu sets up an artificial waterfall and a replica of the Taj Mahal in Chennai.

As a part of the 45 day summer festival or Kodai Tiruvizha, a replica of Taj Mahal and artificial waterfall was set up on the banks of Cooum river at the entrance of Island Grounds in the city, which was a huge hit among the tourists.

According to A C Mohandas, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, the response from the public is overwhelming, as people who want to see Taj Mahal can now see the replica instead of traveling so far to the north.

“Many people are coming and enjoying. We have created Taj Mahal replica and people who want to visit Taj Mahal can now see the replica of it here itself. We are hoping that for the whole forty-five days, people from the whole of Chennai, including the nearby districts will come and enjoy,” said Mohandas.

Visitors said that the replica was realistic and the beauty of the model makes the people come and watch it again and again.

“I can see that the Taj Mahal over here exactly the same as in Agra,” said Goutam, a visitor.

The artificial waterfall and the lake proved to be a respite to the tourists from the scorching heat of the city. (ANI)
