Two Sydney men survive ‘10m-cliff car plunge’

Melbourne, May 2 (ANI): Two Aussie men escaped almost unhurt after their car went down a 10m cliff before cart-wheeling on to railway tracks in Sydney’s west.

The black Toyota Celica was travelling along Railway St, Rookwood, when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a tight bend leading to the Arthur St railway overpass.

The car punched through a steel-bar gate onto a railway embankment before falling over the embankment, cartwheeling onto the tracks.

It ended up 30m down the line.

The passenger fled the spot but was later found and taken to Westmead hospital.

Police tracked down the driver, who had gone home from the scene of the accident, and took him to Westmead hospital where he was questioned and underwent blood and urine tests.

The man, aged in his mid-20s, is believed to have absolutely no memory of the incident.

“Considering the damage to the vehicle, I am amazed they haven’t suffered severe injuries,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Auburn police inspector Chris Hill, as saying.

RailCorp Emergency Response Unit fire officer Peter Berk said the men could have hit the wires on the way down and died of an electric shock, or fallen in front of a freight train.

He added: “The driver has had all his nine lives in one night,” he said. (ANI)
