Peace march held to protest man’s death due to stone pelting in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 2 (ANI): Residents and peace activists took out a peace march through the streets of Srinagar on Sunday (May 02) over the death of a person during a violent protest and shutdown call given by the separatist factions on April 30.

The man died after being hit by a pelted stone during the violent stir.

Organised by the ruling National Conference, the participants in Sunday’s march raised slogans for peace and urged the separatists and their sympathisers to refrain from strikes and stone pelting during protests.

Condemning the death of the person as most unfortunate, Nasir Aslam Wani, Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State Tourism and Culture said that the separatists are losing their base in the State and resort to stone pelting to enforce their shutdown calls.

“The shut down call yesterday was without any purpose. The situation has worsened to such an extent that they now resort to pelting of stones to enforce the shut down. There is no value given to such calls of shut down now. We saw an innocent man on his way to work was killed in stone pelting. We do not want this to happen again. We want to live in peace,” said the Minister Nasir Aslam Wani.

Earlier, another civilian was killed in the valley region when unknown miscreants pelted stones at a bus. He was on his way to work.

The incident happened during a Hurriyat (a separatist organisation) sponsored protests. (ANI)
