Security forces foil infiltration bid in Jammu region

JAMMU - Indian security forces, exchanged heavy gunfire with Pakistani forces overnight Saturday and foiled an infiltration bid by militants trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) at Samba Sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated to the gunfire from Pakistani rangers at Ballad post in Samba sector.
The personnel of the BSF’s 59 Battalion picked up movement of a large group of armed militants near Ballard Forward Post in Ramgarh sub-sector.
“Around 11 pm at night, the firing started and till about 12 am the firing was on. After 12, the firing subsided. We heard big blasts as well,” said Iqbal Singh, a villager.
On Friday, the Army had foiled another infiltration bid from across the border by killing three militants in Kupwara District.
According to sources, the heavily armed militants entered the Machhal sector, 150 kms from Srinagar, but were confronted by alert troops.
The militants were killed in retaliatory action.
Searches have been launched in the area to find out if there were any footprints of infiltrators on this side of the border.
Earlier in April, it was reported that two militants intruded from across the international border.
They crossed over from Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, adjoining Punjab.
The two were later killed in a gunfight with the Punjab police in a village in Gurdaspur district. (ANI)
